JULIE MARKOWITZ, ASW - THERAPIST
I believe healing the relationship with the self is the key to happiness and freedom from past pain and trauma. I do not treat symptoms; I treat a whole person. I work with my clients to build a healthy relationship based on mutual trust, empathy, warmth and care in a non-judgmental atmosphere. I believe that the client is the expert; therefore, I empower my clients to take the lead in their treatment. I truly believe that full recovery is possible for anyone if they are willing to confront their issues.
I focus on the mind-body connection and work with my clients to understand how bodily symptoms are distracting them from painful thoughts and feelings. I use the method of Dr. John Sarno. With this approach I have helped people overcome: chronic pain, depression and addictions.
I work psychodynamically which means we talk about the past to understand what unconscious processes are impacting a person's current life. Through bringing thoughts and feelings into conscious awareness, my clients learn to make new choices that help improve their lives.
Do you feel stuck? Like you can’t do it on your own? My hope is to collaborate with you to better understand some of the obstacles that are in your way, in order for you to be able to live the life you want.
As a therapist I am client-centered, compassionate and honoring of the values and lived experiences of each person I meet with. Therapy is about discovering or rediscovering your preferred way of living and focusing on the changes you would like to make in your life.
My style of counseling is grounded in Narrative and Solution Focused Therapy, which explores ways to overcome the challenges that keep you feeling stuck, through better understanding the knowledge you already possess. I strongly believe we hold many of our own answers, we just need help uncovering them. I offer therapy for individuals, couples and families.
